Homework
Homework and Reading Expectations
All homework will be given on a Thursday and is due the following Tuesday. The tasks vary slightly depending on the year group your child is in, which you can see in the tables below.
Reading is an important skill, which we develop through all years in school. All children should have their reading book and reading record in school each day to support with this.

Page numbers for their homework can be found in the weekly email sent to parents and, to develop independence, we encourage the children to write the date in each book on a Thursday morning.
We ask that you encourage your child to complete this homework, with your support if needed. Please do not complete your child’s homework for them. We would rather know if they have found it difficult so we can adapt it and support them further at school. If homework is regularly not completed, your class teacher will contact you to discuss if there is any further support they can offer to ensure homework is a positive and beneficial experience for your child.
For our children in Years 5 and 6, we begin to develop their independence and ownership of completing their homework tasks. This helps to prepare them for the increased expectations when they move to secondary school.
Year 5 If daily signing of their reading record has not been completed, they will miss 5 minutes of their break time. If a child does not bring in or fully complete their homework on Tuesday, they will be given one extra evening to complete it and if they do not, they will miss 5 minutes of their break time.
Year 6 If homework tasks are not completed, including daily signing of their reading record, they will miss 5 minutes of their break time. If a child does not bring in or fully complete their homework on Tuesday, they will be given one extra evening to complete it and if they do not, they will spend 15 minutes on Wednesday lunchtime completing what they can in that time. |
